5 must-visit beaches in Algarve

19/08/2022

Whether it's your first time in the Algarve or you're already a habitué, choosing the right itinerary is indispensable. Between accommodation, food, attractions and beaches, there is a lot to choose from. In this article, you will find our recommendation for 5 must-visit beaches in our Algarve.

PONTA DA PIEDADE BEACH

Our first suggestion is Praia Ponta da Piedade. Located approximately 3 km south of Lagos. This is not a typical beach, it is more, a set of cliffs carved by the ocean and wind creating a limestone coastline with chiseled sea pillars, turquoise sea waters and golden cliffs. A visit on foot is possible, but clearly the recommendation is by boat, kayak or stand up paddleboard - there is much to admire on this large headland with its fascinating cliff structures, rugged arches and secret caves. Definitely worth a visit.

CAMILO BEACH

Still in Lagos, another place not to be missed is Camilo Beach. There are 200 steps you have to climb down, but at the end you find a true paradise. A cozy beach with calm waters, Camilo Beach is protected by cliffs of all sizes, protecting it from strong winds. It is a very calm beach, extremely scenic, it looks like something out of a movie. Ideal for a more intimate day out. Not to be missed on your next visit to the Algarve.

FALÉSIA BEACH

Next stop, Praia da Falésia in Albufeira. Arguably one of the most beautiful beaches not only in the Algarve, but in the world, Praia da Falésia occupies an extensive strip of sand, and stretches for 6 magnificent kilometers painted by nature's brush in shades of red, ivory and beige. Here you will find clear waters, golden sand and breathtaking views against a backdrop of dazzling cliffs covered with green pines, pink flowers and lush beach lilies. On a hot summer day, when the sky is bright blue, and the sun is reaching its peak, Praia da Falésia turns into a true feast for the eyes. And speaking of party, from the beach you can have direct access to the Open Deck at EPIC SANA Algarve Hotel for lunch and return to the beach for your last swim of the day and still come back to try one of the Sayanna Wellness & SPA treatments. Our suggestion? A leg massage to relieve the tension of the wonderful walks you did during the day in this true paradise on earth.

BENAGIL BEACH

Following the road, we arrive at Lagoa, and here, it is unthinkable to miss Benagil beach. Located at the bottom of a steep valley, near the small fishing port that gives the beach its name, the beach access leads to an area reserved for fishing boats, which can also take you to visit to other small wild beaches and caves. But following the beach and as it extends eastward, you will see cliffs carved out of carbonate rocks that are very rich in marine fossils. Rainwater and the force of the waves have created at Benagil, karst-looking caves that make the best photographs, and it is often considered a beach with real personality... convinced?

PRAIA DA MARINHA BEACH

Last but not least we have Marinha beach, also in Lagoa. Having preserved most of its natural appearance, this is an essential visit for those who want to get to know the beaches of the Algarve. - Authentic, welcoming and absolutely breathtaking. The unique geological formations created by coastal erosion will leave you absolutely dazzled, and the surrounding area is perfect for a walk that will undoubtedly end with you taking a refreshing dive... or 5! Considered one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in Europe and one of the 100 most beautiful beaches in the world by the Michelin Guide, Praia da Marinha should clearly be on your list of beaches to visit in the Algarve.

Regardless of which beach you choose to visit, we can assure you that you have selected the right destination. The Algarve is often considered one of the best travel destinations in Europe for its huge diversity of attractions, gastronomy and heritage, which makes it a must-visit place.

So, what do you say, let's go for a swim?
